About the museum
The Stenestad local heritage farm lies in the middle of the village on Söderåsen and is housed in the village's former poorhouse (fattiggård). Länsstyrelsen Skåne (the County Administrative Board of Skåne) describes how the poorhouse was restored in the 1970s and has since then been used as a local heritage farm.
The residential house has an interior from the late 1800s, and upstairs there is, among other things, a schoolroom from the same period. In the craft range, settings that previously existed in the village or nearby are shown, for example a hairdresser's salon, a joinery, a shoemaker's, a dry goods shop (manufakturaffär) and a village general store. There is also a large collection of older agricultural implements.
The farm is run by Stenestadsortens Hembygdsförening (Stenestad local heritage society), which keeps it open on selected summer days and arranges summer evenings with music, local heritage evenings and a Christmas market in November.
